Port Chester, Lakeland collect upset wins; Section 1 tournament underway

Port Chester 7, Saunders 6: In a Class A first-round game at No. 6 Saunders, Katie Cochrane went 3 for 4 with a triple and a homer for No. 11 Port Chester. Kristen Miloro, Lily Nowotnik and Dom Rodriguez each an RBI. Marisol Grullon had two RBI for Saunders, and Amanda Smith had two hits and an RBI. Amanda Kiriakos and Yzaria Galan also each had an RBI. Port Chester will face the winner of No. 3 Tappan Zee and No. 14 Albertus Magnus/No. 19 Byram Hills in a quarterfinal; date and time to be determined.

Lakeland 6, Sleepy Hollow 2: In a Class A outbracket game vs. No. 16 Sleepy Hollow at Haindl field in Scarsdale, Colleen Walsh pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts for the No. 17 Hornets. Jada Draffin, Jessica Barretta and Danielle Stabile had an RBI apiece. Vanessa Perez had an RBI for Sleepy Hollow. Lakeland visits No. 1 Eastchester 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in a first round game.

thomas1Harrison 14, Poughkeepsie 5, 5: In a Class A first round game at No. 8 Poughkeepsie, Jordan Valentzas went 3 for 4 with a double and had five RBI for the No. 9 Huskies. Victoria Nuvoloni went 2 for 3 with two RBI and four runs scored. Teammate Amanda Evangelista drove in three runs. Harrison advances to the quarterfinals and awaits the winner of No. 17 Lakeland and No. 1 Eastchester; date and time are to be determined. Kennedy 23, Edgemont 1, 5: In a Class B first round game at No. 6 Kennedy, Kaela Fields went 3 for 4 with a double, a walk and three RBI. Rachel Entwistle had a double, three walks, and four RBI. Teammate Molly Feeney allowed an earned run, two hits, and three walks in five innings. She struck out eight for the Gaels. Hallie Lukasiewicz drove in the run for the No. 11 Panthers. Kennedy advances to the quarterfinals and awaits the winner of No. 14 Pleasantville and No. 3 Westlake, date and time to be determined. Westlake and Pleasantville suspeneded in the bottom of the first innning Friday with the Wildcats up 2-0.

Mahopac 24, Fox Lane 4: In a Class AA first round game at No. 5 Fox Lane, Teresa Ricci went 4 for 5, had a double, three home runs, and 11 RBI for the No. 12 Indians. Dariana Wagman went 3 for 4 with a home run and had three RBI. Mahopac will play the winner of No. 13 Scarsdale and No. 4 Clarkstown South in the quarterfinals. The time and date of the game is to be determined.

*Update from White Plains coach Ted O’Donnell: The Tigers were up 9-0 in the bottom of the first with one out and runners on first and second when the umps decided to suspend the game.

**Harrison game was called after the top of the sixth (16-5 was the score) but because Poughkeepsie didn’t bat in the bottom of the sixth, the score reverts back to last completed inning
